“I Know that You are with me”

Exodus 33:12-14

God has come among us.  That is the meaning of “Immanu-el”-God with us (Matthew 1:18).  That is a truth you can count on.  How do you move from that to an expression of confidence, “I know that you are with me, God”?

Moses is talking to God in Exodus 33.  He refers to God’s plain word to him:  “You have said, ‘I know you by name and you have found favor with me.'”  Next, he makes a request of God.  “If  you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so that I may know you and continue to find favor with you.”

Look at God’s answer.  “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”  God literally says to Moses “My face will go with you” because in Hebrew the face is the very presence of a person.  Go with God’s presence, his face will shine on you, and trust him by resting in what he says.   Confidence doesn’t start as a feeling, but it begins as an act of trust that we walk in and gain confidence through use.  Today pray the prayer of confidence:  “I know that You are with me, Immanuel.
